One thing I love about my local library is their preschool story time! They invited me to share “Vincent van Goat and His Starry Night”. And to further prove I have the best library, they gave me permission to bring our baby goats to the library too! G is for goats was a great time for everyone! (Especially the goats:)
I wish I could visit more libraries and share my book, but in the meantime, I have two simple crafts to share with you: a hatching chick craft and Vincent van Goat ears. I used these for my library presentation and my book launch party. You can use them for a party of your own, story time activity, or just a rainy day activity at home!
For the hatching chick craft you’ll need:
The printable pdf download here
Print out on cardstock
Something to color with
Scissors
Glue
To make the hatching chick, decorate your egg however you wish. Then cut out the shapes along the dark lines. Draw a cute little chick face in the upper half of the whole oval, then glue the bottom cracked piece to the chick piece. Using a single hole punch, make a hole through the top cracked piece and the chick piece (near the crack) and connect with the metal brad. Voila! Your children will have fun making their own egg hatch.
For the Vincent van Goat Ears You’ll Need:
The printable pdf download here
Print out on cardstock or colored construction paper (cut to size to fit your printer)
Scissors
Glue
Something to color with (optional)
The Vincent ears are also a cut out and glue together craft. The long strips are to adjust to the circumference of your child’s head.
Books you may want to use if you are doing a story time “G is for Goat” with these activities:
Vincent van Goat and His Starry Night by Anna Harb Lunt
G is for Goat by Patricia Polacco
An Egg is Quiet by Dianna Hutts Aston and Sylvia Long (egg doesn’t start with g, but we did talk about the “g” sound in egg and tied it to Vincent van Goat’s story)
