Today I’m sharing Farm picture books that your animal loving kids will be crazy about!
I love to encourage my children to learn about-and interact with- animals. I love how Children are naturally drawn to learn about animals at an early age as they begin to associate sounds with the animal who makes that sound. The cow says moo! The pig says oink! This is a natural precursor to literacy when you introduce letters having sounds.
I’ve rounded up 10 favorite Farm Picture Books that are sure to bring the fun of the farm to your home or classroom!
Farm Picture Books for Younger Kids
G is for Goat. An all about goats ABC book by Patricia Pollaco. The goats and chickens are actively into trouble throughout this book and the end is heartwarming. (My goats were actively interested in this one.)
What do you Say Little Blue Truck? The animal sounds are part of the story and your child gets to “read” the pictures and press the right button. (The Springtime is also a favorite with zero buttons but many lift the flaps and baby animals.)
Polk-a-dot Old MacDonald’s Farm. this is a counting book to the tune “Old MacDonald” with little bubbles you “Pop” one by one as you count the animals. Guarantee your little will finish and be ready to flip back to the beginning and pop through again.
Color Farm. This farm picture book has brightly colored pages with cutouts and shapes that change as you flip the pages. My kids loved how the shapes became new animals!
Farm Picture Books for All Ages
Chicken Lips by Kristy Hamby is a fun farm tale of how the cow got the name Chicken Lips. The sequel is also fun!
Vincent van Goat’s Starry Night (by me!). A curious goat… hatching eggs… on a starry night!? This farm picture book for kids encompasses counting concepts, art appreciation, the process of creativity, and a whole lot of silliness that the whole family will enjoy.
This title is now available on Amazon!
Farming Strong all Year Long by Sherri Duskey Rinker. This picture book is full of fun vehicles and the jobs they do all year long.
Farm Picture Books for Older Kids
Sleep Tight Farm by Eugenie Doyle. This is a beautifully detailed book exploring all the gifts a farm gives and the care that goes into preparing for a new year as the harvest season closes.
Farmhouse by Sophie Blackhall. This is a unique telling of a family who lived in a farmhouse now long abandoned. The illustrator used remnants scavenged from the house to inspire and collage her exquisite illustrations!
Are there any farm picture books you’d add to this list? I hope this gives you some good ideas for when you swing by your library!
